DETAILED ITINERARY:

DAY 1: MARRAKECH -IMI OUGHLAD -TIZI N'TACHTE -TIZIANE :

Departing from Marrakech at 9:00 AM, we drive towards the higher foothills of the Western High Atlas Mountains, reaching our trailhead at Imi Oughlad (1450m). Here, we disembark from our vehicle and meet our Berber muleteer crew. We begin our trek in a north-westerly direction, ascending switchback mule tracks for a 2-hour acclimatization hike. Along the way, we pass through cornfields, pine woods, and juniper trees until we reach the Tiz n'Tachete (2000m), where we pause to admire the stunning views of the Imlikl and Ait Oussaden valleys. Continuing for another half-hour, we arrive at Imi n'Ifri for our field picnic. Afterward, we embark on a leisurely hike for about 2 and a half hours southwest along a dirt track, descending to Assif n'Ait Oussaden and the red clay terraced village of Tiziane (1750m), where we will spend the night in our bivouac or gite.

DAY 2: TIZZIANE - TIZI N'TAGHRHOURTE - D'KNT

After breakfast, we begin our hike along the Assif n'Ait Oussaden valley, passing through walnut groves and ascending to Tizi n'Taghrhourte (1995m). We continue through a rare, almost flat stretch until we reach Assaka Spring, where we stop for our field picnic amidst the serene silence after about 2 and a half hours of relatively easy walking. In the afternoon, our hike takes us down along the edges of the forest until we arrive at the Berber village of D'knt (1870m) or Agouns n Assoul. Here, we will have our dinner and spend the night in a bivouac or gite.

DAY 3: D'KNT - TIZI N'TAGDALTE - TIZI OUSSEM :

We begin our morning hike, a 3-hour journey through walnut tree groves, corn and barley fields, where we encounter numerous sheep and goatherders, as well as women and children carrying heavy loads of faggots and dried herbs. Crossing the Tizi n'Tagdalte, we descend among the juniper trees until we reach a small spring nestled amidst the trees, where we stop for our picnic. After refreshing ourselves, we continue down winding tracks along the upper slopes for approximately 3 hours until we reach a small river at the beginning of the Assif n'Ait Oussaden valley. From here, we enter the village of Tizi Oussem (1850m) and ascend to the summer village of Tamsoult, where our camp or gite awaits.

DAY 4: TIZI OUSSEM VILLAGE - AGUELZIM PASS - REFUGE TOUBKAL 3207M :

Today involves a fairly steep climb out of the Azzadene Valley to reach the Toubkal Refuge via the Aguelzim Mountain pass at 3,560m. Lunch will be enjoyed with spectacular views over the Atlas Mountain Range. Overnight accommodation will be at the Toubkal Refuge (Niltner Hut), where you’ll likely be sharing a bunk room with other trekkers who are also preparing to tackle Toubkal early the next morning.

DAY 5: REFUGE TOUBKAL - TOUBKAL SUMMIT 4167M - IMLIL

Start your day early for the climb up Toubkal (4,167m), where, if the clouds permit, you'll enjoy stunning views over the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert. Afterward, prepare for a long descent back down past the refuge and along the well-trodden path to Imlil. This day entails a fairly lengthy trek of 8-9 hours, involving an ascent of 900m followed by a descent of almost 2,500m back down to Imlil.

DAY 6: IMLIL - MARRAKECH

After the exhilarating descent from Toubkal, we embark on a scenic transfer back to Marrakech. As we journey through the rugged landscapes and picturesque villages, take the opportunity to reflect on the memories created during our trek. Upon reaching Marrakech, you'll have the chance to unwind and explore the vibrant streets, bustling markets, and cultural landmarks one last time before concluding our adventure. Departure arrangements can be made as per your convenience.

RECOMMENDED TREKKING & HIKING EQUIPMENT:

For your trekking we recommend sleeping Bag, day-pack , sunglasses , water bottles : most of the time is possible to buy during the trek from villages, towel, ziplock baggies, needle and thread - safety, pins, camera, batteries. Clothing, sarong (can double as a towel, lightweight sheet or scarf), cotton long sleeved shirt (for intense sun), light wind-proof jacket, a hat (sun), lightweight long pants, 2-3 T-shirts, woolen sweater/fleece, cotton, scarf (doubles as a wash cloth), Hiking boots or hiking shoes, disinfectant creme / gel (Polysporin), bandaids, Ibufrofen (Advil or generic - for pain, swelling), Tylenol (colds and fever), cold medication - Echanacia / zinc lozenges, tweezers, Visine, Aloe vera gel (for burns), Anti-hystamine tablets, diahrrea medication (Immodium) * sunblock * sanitary supplies with ziplock baggies to carry out moisturiser / lip balm with sunblock * book small torch / flash-light (small bicycle lights make good travelling torches) nail clippers wet-wipes soap / shampoo / toothpaste / toothbrush etc ..
